Look for a great photographer. Research. Be as detailed as much as you can when you are researching.

Book based on the delivery date.

Speaking of booking your newborn photography shoot the right way, the trick is to actually book based on your expected delivery date instead of on any specific date. This way, your photographer will be able to go ahead and make all of the right necessary adjustments. Most of the newborn photographers are wise enough to strategize how they block off certain dates in their calendars. They usually leave a week before the delivery date and a week after that available so that they get to make sure that they will really be able for the newborn photo shoot the moment that the baby arrives.

Sleepy and hungry is not always a good thing.

You want to keep the baby awake, at least during the first few moments of the photo shoot. You want to have a few frames of the baby being awake one way or the other to inject some sort of variety in the photo shoot. Opt for somewhere during the mid morning or something that is fairly similar to that. You also want to make sure that the baby is well fed all the time. A hungry baby is a grumpy baby and not something that you or a photographer would want to deal with at any point during the photo session.

Pooping is a possibility.

Also it might seem embarrassing, it is actually the kind of thing that a lot of professional newborn photographers are already quite used to so don’t even sweat it. Go out of your way to come prepared though. Some wet wipes on the go and a few extra clothes both on your end and the baby’s end wouldn’t hurt all that much either. It’s normal and it’s pretty much a part of anything that has a baby involved.
